The volunteer application process for Animazement 2013 is now closed. However, if you would still like to help out at this year’s convention please stop by Con/Ops at any time during the weekend. We would love to match your talents to some of the behind the scenes work that is taking place.
Animazement is always looking for those who are interested in having a hands-on experience in the workings of a cultural convention. We realize that this interest varies from serving for a few hours to working through the tracks that will enable him or her to serve on staff. Regardless of where you fit in the overall plan, we appreciate your interest.

Volunteer Requirements:
You must be 17 years of age in order to volunteer.
All volunteers and staff must abide by all rules and policies set forth by Animazement and the Raleigh Convention Center. These are in place to protect staff, volunteers, guests and attendees providing safe guidelines.
After contacting us by email you will be contacted by our volunteer director to arrange securing an application form and a personal interview. The volunteer director will consult with department heads and the applicant will be notified about their status.
Cut off date for the application process is April 15th.
The following levels will help you understand the steps to take in order to work your way up:
Ronin (age 17 and up): Those who serve as walk-in volunteers working a few hours or working their way to the next level (you are allowed to work a maximum of 6 hours a day). You must be registered as an attendee of Animazement at the time of volunteer service as a Ronin. Once you have registered you can come by Con/Ops at any time during the weekend for placement. Having worked 6 hours of service you will earn a convention T-Shirt. An accumulation of 12 hours or more earns a preregistration for the next year’s convention.
Kohai (age 18 and up): Those who have worked 32 to 72 hours within a primary department and have the recommendation of existing department heads (you are allowed to work a maximum of 8 hours a day). To qualify for service as a Kohai you must be 18 by May 1st of the year of that convention. Those serving on the Kohai level are entitled to a 3 day pass, crash room space (first-come, first-served), staff apparel, and the staff meal plan. Some convention experience is required.
Sempai (age 20 and up): Veterans who have worked 73 hours or more in a primary department and have the recommendation of existing department heads.
Sensei (age 25 and up): Assistant Directors and Directors.
Crash rooms are available for those having served 32 to 72 hours (Kohai level).
They are strictly gender regulated and their use is limited exclusively to the workers to whom they are assigned. Any individual violating this policy will be removed from the room and their status revoked. Crash rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis, running from Thursday night through Sunday check-out. Crash rooms are a scarce commodity and are never guaranteed. Please make sure to have back-up arrangements. In the crash room you will most likely be sharing a bed. There will be a 4 person per room limit. Alcohol, drug use or firearms are prohibited. As this is a place to rest, sleep and refresh, parties and gatherings are not to be held in crash rooms. Crash rooms may be inspected by Directors or Assistant Directors at any time.
Evaluations will take placed with department heads at the end of each convention to determine future volunteer work.
